RNR's First Radio Show

Are you ready for some RNR? The great artistic team of RAVING NATIVE RADIO introduces our very first audio podcast called:

"Methods of Mass Deception" (MOMD) is a stream-of-consciousness radio play performed by performance artist, actor and musician Cochise Anderson, with production by composer Brent Michael Davids. MOMD was produced especially for Raving Native Radio, and is free to broadcast on radio stations with a Creative Commons (CC) license. Upcoming episodes will include many new theatrical works by locally and nationally based playwrights, community theater artists and neighborhood youth associated with RNR. OUR STORY

Several local performers (pre-RNR) created the first "Native Rave Cabaret" for the l997 Fringe Festival, and did a second Fringe Festival show in 1998. And in 1999, “Raving Native Cabaret” (still pre-RNR) mounted the now infamous "Free Frybread Telethon" at Bryant Lake Bowl, receiving shouting applause with four sold-out houses. Recently however, a few former Cabaret members started brainstorming about the great potential for activist art in a digital world, and “Raving Native Radio” was born.

Today as the newly created RNR, our emphasis has pivoted away from the theater stage, and turned toward mapping out innovative avenues for story, drama and community activism that intersect with technology. It is RNR's goal to reach under-served audiences (akin to ourselves) with community-organized projects designed especially for the web, and to encourage a vital “life-affirming” creativity for artists who routinely experience limited financial support (which also includes ourselves).

OUR VISION

"We were kept in their mindset as 'vanished peoples.' Or as workers, not creators. And what does this erasing of individual identity do to us? Can you believe you exist if you look in a mirror and see no reflection? And what happens when one group controls the mirror market?

As Native people, we have known that in order to survive we had to create, re-create, produce, re-produce. The effect of denial on our existence is that many of us have become invisible. The systematic disruption of our families, the removal of our children, was effective for silencing our voices.

However, not everyone can still that desire, that up-welling inside that says sing, write, draw, move, be. We can sing our hearts out, tell our stories, paint our visions. We are in a position to create a more human reality. In order to live we have to make our own mirrors" (Marcie R. Rendon).
